You know healthy skin when you see it. It has a stunning natural glow – a radiant complexion. We all envy our friends who seem to have wonderful skin naturally. Yet, for many of us, the stress of everyday life, pollution, harmful UV rays and a lack of sleep always seem to leave our skin looking lacklustre. However, there are numerous expert tips which can help transform skin from dull or shiny to a radiant and healthy glow.
1. Stay hydrated
Hydration is the golden ingredient to looking younger and healthier. Without adequate hydration, your skin becomes drier and duller. Wrinkles are even accentuated. Plus, all of the toxins which naturally build up in our body aren’t flushed out of our system.
Instead, drink plenty of water. Many of us mistakenly think we get enough hydration, but coffee and tea aren’t a substitute for the real deal.
2. Keep out the sun
We need to be in the sun to produce vitamin D. So, staying inside and avoiding all sun rays isn’t healthy. However, there is a balance to be struck. Too much sun will dry the skin, UV rays will damage the underlying structure, and if you tan or burn the skin, the effects are long-lasting. Therefore, avoid heavy sunlight if you can, or use sunscreen.
3. Drink less alcohol
After a busy week, a drink with some friends is a fun way to relax. But be careful how much alcohol you drink. Whilst alcohol makes us cut loose in the short-term, it’s also dehydrating our body and damaging our skin. In the days after heavy drinking, your skin will appear duller and drier.
4. Get enough sleep
During sleep, our body gets to work, repairing all the damage of the day. What’s true for the body is true for the skin—we’ve all seen the effects in the mirror. You go to bed tired and looking worse-for-wear, only to wake up refreshed and replenished.
5. Cleanse your pores
You wouldn’t go to bed wearing make-up (or you shouldn’t). But we often leave a layer of natural oils on our skin, blocking up our pores. Instead, make sure to properly cleanse the skin before bed. It’ll work wonders in the long run.
6. Improve your nutrition
Eating a healthy and balanced diet is vital to glowing skin. Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables have rejuvenating effects on the skin, preventing free radical damage, and sparking repair. However, in the fast-paced world of today, many of us often struggle to eat the recommended number of fruits and vegetables. Thankfully, supplements can help. Packed with vitamins and minerals – many of which are antioxidants – supplements are a fantastic way of guaranteeing a glowing complexion.
7. Exercise regularly
Firstly, exercise improves our overall physical health. It gets the blood racing, supplying more oxygen and nutrients to the skin while removing toxins. However, it also leads to sweating, which opens up the sweat pores and removes excess oil. Doing so helps restore a glowing complexion. That’s why athletes have a healthy radiance.
